BCDD were honoured to join the Caribbean & African Health Network (CAHN) in a day of celebration and empowerment of Black women at their annual Sexual Health Empowerment & Reproductive Outreach (SHERO) event in Lambeth on Saturday 15th March 2025.
This Caribbean and African-led event aimed to increase knowledge of sexual and reproductive health, and engagement with sexual health services amongst Black communities through engaging and interactive sessions on some of the most pressing issues facing our communities within this area.
BCDD were delighted to have a strong presence at the event, with members of our health promotion team – Dr. Nicole Clarke, Dr. Stephanie Hanson and Dr. Tesha-Dawn Brathwaite – showcasing our established history of health promotion and outreach activities at our stall, along with our upcoming events.
In addition, Dr Stephanie Hanson, a trained GP currently working in Integrated Sexual Health, delivered a well-received presentation on the topic of ‘STI Prevention: Addressing Myths, Stigma, & Practical Prevention Strategies’, where she powerfully demonstrated how widespread stigma and myths about sex and sexual health were helping to drive higher rates of STIs amongst Black communities and the concrete steps individuals and communities can take to overcome them.
We look forward to continuing to work in partnership with CAHN to empower our communities to improve their health and wellbeing.
