Our Professional development programme aims to help our members at all stages in their career by providing peer mentors who will provide a listening ear and a guide for those who want to pursue careers in similar specialties. Our doctors are an important source of knowledge and support for each other with the common goal of achieving unity and progress. Medicine and Dentistry are professions that are continually evolving. At every stage of our careers, we need to learn and develop new skills in order to progress, keep up to date with new advancements and enjoy sustainable careers. The professional development team at BCDD is keen to support Doctors, Dentists and respective students to achieve this. The professional development team consists of a professional development lead, reps for each stage of medical training, and also a dental rep. The reps offer a point of contact to help navigate specific queries or challenges faced at particular levels of training.

The team previously ran monthly webinars. These covered a wide range of topics aiming to supplement and improve our working lives. The team were able to support trainees applying for speciality programme places through group sessions and mock interviews. We also facilitated discussions on how our careers can flourish through clinical entrepreneurial initiatives and out of programme experiences. We look forward to future planned events including sessions on clinical leadership and increasing our involvement in research.
The Professional Development team also runs the BCDD mentoring programme. The programme offers support to doctors, dentists and respective students and enables them to thrive in their careers.
