Dr Aiesha Alexander MBChB BSc PGCert MRCPCH is a Paediatric Trainee in the West Midlands, of Jamaican and Sri Lankan heritage. She spent her early years in living in Trelawny, Jamaica before moving to the UK with her family at the age of 10, settling in West London.
Her ambition to pursue a career in medicine began in childhood. However, after failing to achieve the grades required to obtain a place at medical school, she opted to study Biomedical Sciences at the University of Warwick, graduating with a 1st class with honours. During this degree she developed her research skills; taking an intercalated year to work in vaccine development at Porton Down, as well as her passion for travel and teaching. After working for a year as a Teaching Assistant in her home town, Aiesha returned to the University of Warwick to read Medicine, graduating in 2016. As a medical student she was actively involved in teaching, including teaching OSCE revision sessions, organising clinical skills workshops and demonstrating anatomy at the West Midlands Surgical Training Centre. This lead her to complete a PG Cert in Medical Education during Foundation training.
Dr Alexander’s main research interests include education, health inequalities and patient safety. She has presented her work at a number of national conferences and won Second prize for an Oral Presentation in 2017. She is keen to share her research skills with others and believes taking part in research should be a collaborative process accessible to everyone.
