In July the outreach team recently undertook a workshop with Voyage youth as part of their careers carousel for their summer school.
The workshop delivered by Dr Rochelle Pierre and medical student Lije Johnson lasted 45mins and consisted of approximately 40 young people.
During this workshop both Rochelle and Lije explained their journeys into medicine and described the entry process into medicine. Rochelle discussed graduate entry medicine whilst Lije spoke about unconventional routes into medicine including the extended medical degree programme.
They had discussions with young people regarding reasons of becoming a doctor and also what it is like on a day to day basis.
The workshops were very well received and the young people felt inspired not only to consider careers in medicine and healthcare but also to work harder to achieve their life goals.
Both Rochelle and Lije grew up in hackney and were therefore able to relate to the young people.
BCDD will be working with Voyage in the future for further career projects as well as continuing with mentoring young people.
