Over the past year we have worked with Year 12 students at La Retraite RC Girls School providing workshops on entry into Medicine and Dentistry. In our first few sessions members discussed their roles, personal journeys into Medicine and Dentistry and the requirements needed, as well as providing general life advice to these very bright and motivated students. Our subsequent workshops included a more targeted student led question and answer session discussing medical school experiences, life after medical school, work/life balance and entrepreneurship alongside the career.
Our workshops have been conducted virtually thus far, are fun, interactive, and engaging for the students. Some of the feedback we have received includes
“I liked listening to their life stories. It made me relate to them more and realise that anyone could achieve their dream in being in the medical field despite colour”
“I liked how it gave me insight on the multiple ways you can be become a doctor and if you don’t get the grades needed there are other pathways to become a doctor”
We continue to work closely with the school and students, as they navigate their career paths.
